Fight the Good Fight
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
Paul made an amazing statement that Christians have long taken to heart. His statement in this verse is of great encouragement to us. We must not only start well, but also finish well.
Paul made sure to keep the truths of the Word of God. He never gave up in ministry. He fought to the very end. He finished his race and never lost his faith. Paul finished strong. He completed everything God had called him to do.
It is a battle being a Christian and an even greater battle when you step into ministry. When you enter ministry, you have got to live a disciplined life. How is your longevity in the ministry? Do you get offended easily and walk away? You have to be thick skinned and keep your eyes on the Lord, not on man. Can you say you have fought the good fight? Or has the enemy gotten the victory in your life and sent you to flight? Have you kept the faith? Finish what you have started––finish the race! Keep moving forward––fighting, racing, and keeping the faith.
It has been said that there are three things that will disqualify a pastor: pride, money, and women. I know a lot of pastors who were disqualified. They failed to fight the good fight, to finish the race, and to keep the faith. Paul the Apostle did not let pride, money, or women trip him up. It is believed he was married, and his wife either died or left him because of his faith in Christ. He never got married again. He was single-minded when he served the Lord. He made it to the finish line.
One day, we shall come to the place where we shall be ready to go home and be with the Lord. It will happen to each one of us individually. Read what Paul said again and place it in your heart. Put your name in this verse and make it your own.
Oh let us continually keep faith in exercise, till it be entirely swallowed up in the boundless ocean of beatific vision.
