Hearing the Prophet
“For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days.”
Acts 3:22-24
Again, what is Peter saying to the Jews listening to him? Knowing the Scriptures, he expounds on what Moses said regarding Jesus Christ.
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear… I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him’ ” (Deuteronomy 18:15, 18-19).
Moses was a prophet, but not the Prophet he spoke of here––he was pointing God’s people to Jesus Christ. The Jews knew the Scriptures. All they needed to do was search them to find the truth––Jesus of Nazareth was the Prophet Moses spoke of––their Messiah. This was nothing new.
Those who rejected Jesus Christ would be destroyed. Again, all they needed to do was to study the Word of the Lord as spoken by all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow…. What they spoke was a sure confirmation of these days––everything pertaining to Christ.
The Bible is a road map to Christ. Without it you are miserably lost.
He [Jesus] transcends the prophets and fulfills their God-given oracles.
