The Sinner’s Judgment

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment....
Hebrews 9:27

We have discussed the judgment for believers at the Bema Seat of Jesus Christ. He will not judge Christians for their sin, but for their works and their motives (1 Corinthians 3:11-15). But what about the nonbeliever? What will happen to them? Revelation 20:11-15 describes the White Throne Judgment of God, where they will be judged for their sins. As stated in Hebrews 9:27, there is an appointed time for men to die and then the judgment. The moment a person dies, they go straight into eternity. They go into Hades awaiting judgment.

What happens at the White Throne Judgment of God? The Bible tells us the vision of the Apostle John:

...I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:12-15).

From the day a person is born until the day they die, every sin they have ever committed will be written in a book. However, if a sinner repents and comes to Christ, everything written in this book will be erased––wiped clean. When a person is saved, their name is placed in the Book of Life. They will be declared, “Not Guilty!” Think about the person who rejects Jesus Christ. On the Day of Judgment, every single sin they ever committed will be read. There will be no escape from God’s judgment.

When a sinner understands the horrific consequences of breaking the Law of God, he will flee to the Savior, solely to escape the wrath that is to come.
