Financial Provision
Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress. Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.
Philippians 4:14-15
Paul turned his attention to the joy of financial provision in the mission field. In his years of ministry in the Lord, he did not worry about money.
One major cause of anxiety for people is too much or too little money. They can worry, thinking, How am I going to find my next meal, or How am I going to make my next million? The rich worry about losing it, and the poor always worry about getting it. People are constantly not content in their hearts. The Bible says money in itself is morally neutral; it is not evil to have money. The Scriptures tells us:
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1Timothy 6:10).
Money in itself is not evil, it is the way a person covets money and abuses it that becomes evil. Jesus addressed our worries saying, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life....” Are you worrying? Jesus assured us, just as He assured His disciples before us, that our heavenly Father will always provide food, drink and clothing for us (Matthew 6:25-32). God has promised to provide for all of our needs according to His will.
Seriously, how many times have you seen a sparrow or pigeon worrying about what to eat? They go into your backyard and help themselves! They do not worry about these things, but we do. We drive ourselves insane with worry! The secret to a worriless life is God first: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). You can become content in Christ when you are seeking first the Kingdom of God––period.
Worry is an indication that we think God cannot take care of us.
