God’s Divine Healings

And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
Acts 5:14-16

Once again, the believers in the early church were in harmony––oneness. Notice how some people, although holding the Apostles in high esteem, kept their distance. Why? I believe after hearing about Ananias and Sapphira, fear caused them to keep their distance: Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly (Acts 5:13).

The believers in Christ continued to pray together, and God, as a result, continued to move. Multitudes of men and women were added to the Church daily. They had increased their number considerably. Those who were sick, and others who were tormented by evil spirits, were all healed. Does God heal everybody? Don Stewart explains:

As long as we are still in these bodies we will become sick and eventually die. This is one of the results of the curse of the Fall. Once sin entered our world the death process began. Each of us is under that curse. We will grow old, become ill, and eventually die. This is something which none of us can avoid.

At this particular time, God, through the Apostles, was instantly healing people. It was a unique time and work. Does God still heal people today? Yes, in fact, any person who has been healed by the Lord can go to their doctor to have the healing confirmed.

Perhaps, the reason we do not see or hear about people being healed as much today is because there is too much carnality––sin in the Church. If only people would live holy lives––lives set apart for God––then He would open the windows of heaven and do a tremendous work.

My graces languish, my corruptions rage, my faith is weak, my devotion is cold; all these are reasons why His healing hand should be laid upon me.
~C.H. Spurgeon~
