Blood Requirement

Then likewise he [Moses] sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.  And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Hebrews 9:21-22

Forgiveness for sin comes through the shedding of blood––period. There is no other way. If there is no shedding of blood, then the opposite is true––there is no forgiveness. A separation between God and the sinner still exists. As previously stated, in the Old Testament, the shed blood of animals acted only as a covering for sin, whereas the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross took away our sins, once and for all.

Do you see now how the Old Testament became ineffective once Christ came? The death of animals and the sprinkling of their blood was only temporal until Jesus came to do His Father’s will. In the New Testament, we are shown how we are able to attain salvation:

“Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all (Hebrews 10:9-10).

What did Jesus say to His Father in the Garden of Gethsemane? “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). Imagine the agony of those moments when Jesus was speaking to His Father, knowing the torture He was about to face. Yet He surrendered His will to the Father’s will to go to the Cross. The cost of our salvation came at a high price––the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

Again, what has the blood of Christ done for us? For by one offering He [Jesus] has perfected forever those who are being sanctified (Hebrews 10:14). This statement means that, not only are we sanctified in Christ upon our acceptance of Him, but we are continually being sanctified as we daily carry on, walking with Christ on our Christian journey.

Sanctification is the real change in man from the sordidness of sin to the purity of God's image.
