The Love of Money

Meanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore he sent for him more often and conversed with him. But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.
Acts 24:26-27

Even though the Holy Spirit was convicting Felix and Drusilla, they walked away from the truth. Notice the focus of Felix’s real desire. He did not desire Christ; he desired money. Felix and Drusilla were part of an adulterous and sinful generation. They had an opportunity to escape and to be a part of God’s kingdom; but after two years, they moved on with their lives without Christ and left Paul in prison––sad.

How many people have been entrapped by the love of money? Money in itself is not evil; it is the love and greed for money that is the problem. Some people will do anything to get rich. They will even sell their souls! The Bible sheds much light on this subject. Try to keep this truth found in Mark 8:36-39, in your heart and mind:

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Yet another insightful Scripture in 1 Timothy 6:9-10 NIV, tells the tragic end of those whose lives were lived to seek after money:

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
