The Comfort of Fellow Believers

Tychicus, a beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me. I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts....
Colossians 4:7-8

The aging Apostle knew he could not successfully complete the work of the ministry on his own. Paul interacted with many fellow laborers. In the closing of his letter, he named some of them. Tychicus was listed first. His name Tychicus in the Greek language means “fortunate,” and certainly he was fortunate to know Paul. They had met in Asia (Acts 20:4), and later on, Tychicus was sent to Ephesus to proclaim the Gospel (Ephesians 6:21).

Paul mentioned three noteworthy things about Tychicus: He was a beloved brother, a faithful minister, and a fellow servant. You could say Tychicus was found to be faithful in the smaller things, and God entrusted him with greater things. At this time, Tychicus carried Paul’s correspondence to the Colossians so that they would be comforted.

Even though Paul was under house arrest, he showed how selfless he was. He was far more concerned about the Colossian believers than he was about himself. Paul also sent Tychicus because he was concerned for the church and the trials they were enduring. That is the true heart of a minister. He also cared greatly about those who worked with him––those who often placed their lives on the line for him.

As a pastor, I care daily about the congregation at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs. There are people who have come here faithfully for years. You are loved and appreciated. I thank God for you! As we go into a New Year together, I am excited to see what God will do through our church. I praise God for all He has done and what He will continue to do in the future. God is so good. May the Lord speak to our hearts as we listen to what He has to say through His Word to each one of us individually.

There is a brotherhood within the body of believers, and the Lord Jesus Christ is the common denominator. Friendship and fellowship are the legal tender among believers.
