Been Born Again?
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:3
The Pharisee Nicodemus came at night to inquire of Jesus. He knew that Jesus was a teacher sent from God because of the evidence of signs He did. Knowing the sincere, searching heart of Nicodemus, Jesus told him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Even though a religious man, he did not understand what Jesus was saying. As a Pharisee, he lived his life by the Law of Moses, and he did everything according to tradition. Jesus explained the new birth in more detail:
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:5-8).
Jesus was not speaking about a physical birth; He was speaking about a spiritual birth. This occurs through repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ by faith. Spiritual rebirth only happens by the power of the Holy Spirit. It cannot happen naturally; it is supernatural.
When a person is touched by the Holy Spirit, the Spirit convicts them of sin and moves them into a place of repentance. They become a born- again Christian. When Jesus Christ comes into a person’s life, there is a change of heart, mind and attitude. They become a brand-new person. There is evidence of the new birth––a hunger and thirst for the truth of God’s Word and a desire to please God.
Do you want to come by faith to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? In prayer, repent of your sins, ask for forgiveness, and, by faith, ask Him to come into your life today.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
