Integrity in the Workplace

Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men....
Colossians 3:22-23

As a Christian, your integrity is to be seen in the workplace. Determine in your heart to set down a good example to your employer. Go to work on time. When you are there, work hard! As Christians, I know we desire to share our faith with others. However, we should not witness to people during the time we are working. That is not right in the eyes of the Lord, and it is not fair to your employer. It is best to wait for an opportunity during your lunch break.

Do not waste precious work time conversing with other co-workers or taking extra breaks. Have you found yourself watching the clock because you are ready to leave as soon as you can? Be willing to work overtime if a job needs to be completed. Do not leave your job early; make sure you have worked your full eight hours. When you receive your paycheck, then you know in your heart that you have honestly earned it and you have not robbed your employer.

What attitude should Christian employees have in the workplace? As you work hard for your employer, keep this in mind: You are doing it for the Lord. This was good advice from the Apostle Paul: And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.... This reality will help motivate you in your work. It will also help you not to murmur and complain on the job. When you are asked to complete a task––even if it is sweeping, mopping or whatever it is––do it as unto the Lord. Please the Lord in the workplace, and then, as a result, you are going to please your employer in the way you do your work.

Being pure in conduct also includes honesty and integrity in dealing with our fellowmen. A Christian should be known in his neighborhood or place of business as an honest person.
