Coming Against Christ
And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: “Why did the nations rage, and the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the LORD and against His Christ.’ ”
Acts 4:23-26
The chief priests and elders reluctantly let Peter and John go. When they returned to their companions, they shared with them what had happened. When they heard their report, the believers quickly began a prayer meeting to give honor and glory to the Lord. They praised Him! Christ’s disciples knew the power of prayer. It would be prayer that would help them prepare for the next persecution that was surely to come.
Notice, they prayed in one accord. In unity, they exalted God’s name. He is the Creator of heaven and earth. While in prayer, they made mention of a prophetical prophecy spoken by King David in Psalm 2:1-4:
Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision.
Think about it: Really, who can come against God? It is absurd! Yet rebellion and wickedness are in the hearts of men. Are you rebelling against God by living a life of willful sin? Then repent! Stop what you are doing. Your sin has been paid for at the Cross of Calvary.
Sin is not weakness, it is a disease; it is red-handed rebellion against God and the magnitude of that rebellion is expressed by Calvary’s cross.
