The Holiest of All
...and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant....
Hebrews 9:3-4
Again, in these verses, we see the earthly sanctuary items made for the tabernacle in the wilderness (Exodus 25-40). Behind the veil––a thick curtain––was the famous Ark of the Covenant. A beautiful picture is given of the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies.
The three elements placed inside of the Ark of the Covenant were to remind God’s people of His faithfulness and provision in the wilderness. God provided manna––bread from heaven. The rod that budded was Aarons’ staff representing the tribe of Levi (Numbers 17:8). Moses received the Ten Commandments––the tablets of the covenant (Exodus 34:1). It is so beautiful that God kept all these things in the Ark of the Covenant to help remind His people of His faithfulness. Everything God promised came to pass. God kept His promises to them.
However, we do not worship the shadows and types found in the Old Testament, but we worship Jesus Christ. He is the fulfillment of the Old Testament as, in the New Testament, He established a new covenant. As prophesied in the Old Testament, Jesus came and revealed Himself to be the Jewish Messiah in the New Testament.
A Samaritan woman knew about the Messiah’s coming. In a conversation with Jesus she said: “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things” (John 4:25). What did the Lord reveal to her? He said in response: “I who speak to you am He” (John 4:26). Remember the second covenant is a heavenly one established by Jesus Christ whereby all people from every nation, not only the Jews, can come to salvation.
[Jesus was] ...slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation....
~Revelation 5:9 KJV~
