New Year’s Day
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ....
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
Today marks another New Year when people make all kinds of promises to themselves––New Year’s resolutions. I think the majority of people break those commitments, sometimes within the first week of the year! What about a renewed commitment to holiness and a closer walk with Jesus Christ? What changes will you make to ensure you have a closer walk with Him this coming year?
It is important to take an examination of your life. What is on your mind every day? How do you allow the world to influence you? Be careful with what you are watching and reading because it can infect your mind. For instance, do you recognize that you have a problem with lust? What about your anger? Do you watch and listen to things that stir up hate and violence?
Did you know that when you read the Scriptures, you are putting God’s Word into your mind? God’s Word cleanses your mind. The psalmist shares with us how God’s Word helps us to live a consecrated life:
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You (Psalm 119:9-11).
Be resolved this New Year to seek the Lord with your whole heart. Renew your commitment to Him. Think about it. Are you winning the battle for your mind? You have spiritual weaponry to help win the battle––God’s Word! Hide His Word in your heart; it will come to your mind when you need it the most. May you walk in obedience to Christ this year!
Most of all, let the Word of God fill you and renew your mind every day. When our minds are on Christ, Satan has little room to maneuver.
