Christ is Creator
For by Him [Jesus] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:16
As we progress through the book of Colossians, I believe this letter is perfect to study for the times we are living in today. This was an age of science, when people tried to discredit a belief in God. Yet creation––the earth and the entire galaxy––cries out that there is a God! The world did not come into existence by itself––there is a Creator.
Gnosticism was a heretical teaching that had infiltrated the Colossian church, and the teaching needed to be contested. Paul gave an excellent defense of the deity of Christ and was very informative in his defense of the gospel. The word Gnosticism is the Greek word gnostikos meaning “to know.” Therefore, an agnostic means “one who does not know.” Literally, in the Latin translation, it means “I am an ignoramus––ignorant of any knowledge.”
When intellectual people claim to be agnostic, they are actually saying, “I do not know anything.” They act very proud when they say, “I am an agnostic,” but in actuality, they are declaring they know nothing about God. There are those who still say today, “There is no God!” But what do the Scriptures declare? The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1).
Mediate––think on––Paul’s declaration of Jesus as Creator:
For by Him [Jesus] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Do you know the Word of God enough that you can contest false doctrines that attack the deity of Jesus Christ?
Creation is the setting forth of Jesus Christ as Lord and Sovereign.
