What Happens After Death?
Jesus said to her [Martha], “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25-26
Many people are curious and ask, “What happens after death?” Different answers are bound to arise, but what about the truth found in God’s Word? Jesus answers this age-old question, and He puts an end to the query. Those who believe in Him, even though they die, they will live again!
In Jesus’ prayer to the Father in John 17 before He went to the Cross to die for our sins, consider the great gift He gives to those who are His:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him” (John 17:1-2).
Whenever anyone dies, they go straight into eternity. But where do they go? What else did Jesus reveal about eternity?
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2-3).
What did Jesus warn His twelve disciples about as they went to preach the Gospel in Israel? Matthew 10:28 states: “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Know this: Heaven and hell are real. You are going to spend eternity in one of these places. If you died today, do you know where you would go? Be sure you make the right choice. Accept Jesus as your Savior, and do not make a mistake about eternity. After death, there is no turning back; there are no second chances––it is all over.
We all want to live as long as we can. Unfortunately, someday we will all be faced with the reality of death. It is then, when life or death truly begin.
