Christ Be With Us All
Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you. All the saints greet you, but especially those who are of Caesar’s household. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Philippians 4:21-23
Paul’s final remarks are recorded as he closed the letter, once and for all, to the Philippians. Paul concluded the short epistle by greeting every saint––every believer––those “separated ones,” set apart for God. Paul was dedicated in ministry to love and care for all the saints.
Can you believe this? Paul mentioned the saints that were in Caesar’s household because, while he was in prison, he had the opportunity to lead many of the Roman centurions to the Lord. Paul was chained up for at least 4-8 hours a day to a centurion. These men were chosen to be centurions because of their height, strength, discipline and ability in handling a sword. Paul was able to fully share the Gospel with these warriors.
Paul told the Philippians, “Your giving, your praying, and worshipping have been instrumental in the work of the ministry, right within Caesar Nero’s army!” These trained, masculine centurions were now sending greetings to the Philippians––amazing!
Circle the words “you all.” Paul referenced every saint around the world––all those who believed in Jesus Christ. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave this promise to all the saints: “...lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen (Matthew 28:20).
In the beginning of the book of Philippians, Paul started with grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He now ends with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we all share in the glorious redemption found in Jesus Christ, that is to be our daily joy!
Our joy is to come from the assurance that we have redemption in Christ. The greatest joy that a person can have is to know that his name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, that he is saved and will live forever with Christ.
