Wisdom and Spiritual Understanding

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding....
Colossians 1:9

When Christians pray, they enter into a time of intimate communion with God. As they study the Word of God, they are filled with His knowledge, wisdom and spiritual understanding. Every answer to their questions and problems is found in the Bible. The Holy Spirit dwells in them, and He becomes their Counselor (John 14:16-17).

When someone comes to me for counseling, I like to ask them three important questions, because usually, one of these areas is lacking in their lives. I ask, “Have you been praying?” They may reply, “Once in a while.” I continue to ask, “Are you daily studying the Word of God?” They often reply, “I am pretty busy, so when I get the chance, I study.” Finally, I ask, “Are you regularly going to a Bible study and, for accountability, remaining in fellowship with other believers?” They admit, “Once in a while I go to church.” Well then, you can see why these Christians have problems.

If only Christians would discipline themselves to pray, study the Word of God daily, and fellowship, they would save themselves a lot of headaches. It is always good to attend Bible studies here at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs, but Christians need their own personal time with God. They need to crack open the Bible and wait on God to speak to them through the Scriptures. They can learn so much from all the stories and examples of people’s lives written in its pages.

Again, the problem is that some believers are just too busy with their lives. It is important to take time to mediate on the Word and to step out in faith to serve the Lord, and then they will naturally bring forth fruit.

Blessed is the man... [whose] delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season....
~Psalm 1:1-3~
