Fear God’s Vengeance
For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Hebrews 10:30-31
Paul quoted from Deuteronomy 32:35 which states: “’Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; their foot shall slip in due time; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things to come hasten upon them.’ ” Listen, you do not want to be on the side of God’s judgment––you want to be on the side of grace.
Notice, the law of vengeance is voiced: “The Lord will judge His people.” Interestingly, there is a law of judgment in the Old Testament, and judgment is also seen in the New Testament. Judgment will one day come upon all who reject God’s grace, love, and mercy. Why? These people are guilty of blaspheming against God!
If only people understood the reality of hell and the torment of being separated from God, forever in darkness. Those who do not repent of their sin, but reject Christ as the way provided for their salvation, will go into eternity without God’s grace. The minute they take their last breath, their dead body will be buried in the ground, but their soul is lost for all eternity––it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!
King David knew a judgment day was coming for the wicked. He trusted the Lord and, in the light of his affliction, kept an eternal perspective:
Psalm 37:12-13: The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.
Psalm 37:38: ...the transgressors shall be destroyed together; the future of the wicked shall be cut off.
People live their lives carefree, but are they ready to meet their Maker? While they are alive, they have an opportunity to accept Christ; once they die, it is too late. The decision to follow Christ must be made now. That is why Christians must have an urgency to see people get saved.
There is nothing that keeps wicked men at any one moment out of hell, but the mere pleasure of God.
