Are You Lukewarm?

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”
Revelation 3:15-16

There are so many people today who have lost hope, and any love they had for Christ has grown cold. We are living in times that are extremely difficult. The Word of God gives to us the reason for why people’s hearts have grown cold in their faith in these last days: “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12).

Jesus spoke to the Church of Laodicea. Many years earlier, it was a living, dynamic fellowship near the church of Colossians––known as a tri-city area. He rebuked them for being lukewarm and gave them this stern warning:

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth” ’ ” (Revelation 3:14-16).

To be in a position of lukewarmness is very dangerous. Unwilling to turn from sin and follow Christ, these people are “straddling the fence.” They want to live with one foot in Christ and one foot in the world. They have a tremendous struggle in their lives. A part of them really wants to serve God, but the appetites of their carnal desires take over and consume them. They are held back from all that is ours in a saving relationship with Jesus.

For this reason, our Lord said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).

Is it not a sad thing that after all Christ’s love to us, we should repay it with lukewarm love to Him?
