President’s Day

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior….
1 Timothy 2:1-3

Paul exhorted believers to pray. He desired we would have a sincere heart to intercede on behalf of those who needed Christ for salvation. The whole world needs to be saved! Prayer is a necessity in the battle for the lost. Believe in the power of prayer! Never give up praying! God answers our prayers. Pray for your children and grandchildren, for people who come across your path daily, for those in your neighborhoods, at the store, and wherever you may go.

Paul gave four examples of prayer for us to follow. The word supplication means “to beg.” Supplication is described as an intense entreaty, a pouring out to God from your heart for others. Christians should not be self-centered in their prayers. Instead, they should focus on the needs of others. May God give to us a burden for the lost and an urgency to tell those perishing in the darkness the Gospel message.

Intercessory prayer addresses God. It recognizes God’s position as Creator. It gives Him all the glory. In our daily prayers we draw close to God. We enter into an intimate time of communication with Him. The giving of thanks is a prayer given in sincerity for all God has done in our lives in the past, the present, and what He will do for us in the future.

Prayer is to be made for all men––for kings, the President, Vice President, and all those in Congress and the House of Representatives. As Christians, it is our duty to intercede for those placed in different positions of government. They all need salvation and wisdom for making important decisions.

I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips.
