The Gift of the Holy Spirit

But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Hebrews 10:15-17

Prior to the Holy Spirit being poured out at Pentecost, Jesus, before His death, had already spoken to His Disciples about the Spirit’s coming:

“...I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you” (John 14:15-17).

When Jesus was with His Disciples after His Resurrection, once again He spoke to them about the Holy Spirit: Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). Jesus remained with His Disciples for 40 days before His ascension to heaven. The Holy Spirit came 10 days later. On the 50th day, the Day of Pentecost, 120 people were praying in an upper room and were baptized with the Holy Spirit.

This important event in history birthed the period of the Church (Acts 2:1-3). For the last 2000 years, the Holy Spirit has been at work in the world. What work is He doing? The Bible tells us: “And when He [the Holy Spirit] has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment ...” (John 16:8).

When the Apostle Peter preached the Gospel boldly to the Jews, he told them: “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). The Jewish nation will come to know their Messiah and receive the blessedness of forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit. God is not done with Israel; He loves His people.

“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
~Jeremiah 31:33~
