President’s Day

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior….
1Timothy 2:1-3

Tomorrow is President’s Day. Paul exhorted believers to pray and to intercede on behalf of those in all places of authority. This President’s Day we reflect on those who are in positions of authority. No matter how good or evil, God in His sovereignty has allowed these men or women to be there. The Bible tells us that He lifts one up and puts another down (Psalm 75:7).

Sometimes, God allows the ungodly in places of authority to chasten a nation. I firmly believe that the current administration has been used of God to chasten America. This year, we, the American people, have an opportunity to make a huge difference and vote righteously. In God’s mercy, may we plead in prayer for His divine intervention in giving us a leader who will make righteous decisions for us as a nation. We need a President who loves America and stands with our allies in times of war. Second Chronicles 7:14 calls upon God’s people to humbly pray:

“...if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Will you commit each day to pray for America and its leaders? Pray for God to forgive us our sin and for Him to act on our behalf. Everyone in America needs to humble themselves, pray, and seek God’s face. Then God will hear from heaven. It is only when we turn from our wicked ways that He promises to forgive our sin and heal our land.

Listen, we are in a spiritual battle, and we need to wield the weapon of prayer. There is power in prayer! God will surely answer our prayers!

I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips.
