Valentine’s Day
Show me the wonders of your great love, You who save by your right hand those who take refuge in You from their foes.
Psalm 17:7 NIV
Have you ever experienced the reality of God’s wondrous love? David, the Sweet Psalmist, called upon the Lord in confident prayer because of his personal knowledge of God’s love, seen in His past actions––the power of His deliverance. He knew those who take refuge in God will be saved from their enemies.
What is the enemy of our souls? Is it not sin and Satan? These deadly foes will snatch a person’s soul as a thief and cause them to be lost for all eternity. Who is the lover of your soul? Jesus! Charles Wesley penned in praise, thoughts similar to that of the humble Psalmist:
Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
Till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide;
Oh, receive my soul at last.
Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! Leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed,
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head
With the shadow of Thy wing.
God’s love, demonstrated through Christ, can save you from sin and Satan (Ephesians 2:4-8). Call on Him for salvation; experience and fully know the wonders of God’s love expressed in His saving grace.
It is but right that our hearts should be on God, when the heart of God is so much on us.
