Are You Tormented by Your Sin?
Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
Romans 6:16
Whether you are a Christian or not, sin will always become your tormentor if you allow it to reign in your life. As a nonbeliever, I had committed adultery and was living a life of sin. I would scheme and do all kinds of things to hide my sin so that I would not be found out. Yet I could not stop the guilty thoughts going around in my mind. When I came home to sleep in the same bed with my wife, I was restless––I just could not sleep! I felt so guilty and was tormented by my sin.
I know that my wife Sharon, her mom and dad, Edmund and Naomi Farrel, were praying for me, and so was her grandma––Bertha Eula Kopp. We are all born sinners, but when the Holy Spirit begins to work in our lives, especially when people are praying for us, He brings a deep conviction to our hearts. This was exactly what had happened to me.
During this time, the Lord was revealing things to Sharon. Why? She was in tune with the Holy Spirit. That is the way the Holy Spirit works. My wife knew I was lying; she had discernment. It was not until I surrendered my life to the Lord and repented of my sin that I found peace. My wife chose to forgive me––it is by the grace of God that I am the man I am today.
Let me say this: if you have no peace or joy in your life, and you feel guilty about the things you are doing, then chances are, someone is praying for you. Listen, you cannot escape the Holy Spirit’s conviction. The Holy Spirit is pursuing you! Your sin will torment you day and night until you surrender your life to the Lord.
Will you swallow your pride and surrender your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ today? Come to the Cross––come to Jesus who died for your sins on that Cross. It is just that simple.
The sinner prides himself on his independence, completely overlooking the fact that he is the weak slave of the sins that rule his members.
