Christ’s Authority
...and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. (NIV)
Colossians 2:10
In Colosse, as we know, there were many heresies circulating. False teachers tried to seduce believers in Christ into their way of thinking. Paul faced nonbelievers who contested the truth of who Christ was according to the Scriptures. These doctrinal issues Paul dealt with in the past are something that we can relate to in our present time. People do not acknowledge the deity, authority or supremacy of Christ.
As this age had no respect for Christ’s authority, Paul taught the Colossians about Christ’s supremacy: And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence (Colossian 1:18). Understand, Christ is above all––there is no other.
Jesus is supreme authority over the world and the universe––everything visible and invisible (Colossians 1:15). Think about the lack of submission to authority in the times in which we now live. At present, politically, there has been created an atmosphere of division––especially in our schools. As there is a lack of respect for authority, some people have come against police officers––they are now targets of violence.
Our current administration has issued plans to defund the police. No wonder crime has surged! In the summer of 2021, lawless people took to the streets. Rioters burned our cities, churches, police cars and even the third police precinct in Minneapolis, Minnesota. What is needed is a submission to the authority and Lordship of Christ and His Word.
Will you willingly submit to Christ authority or rebel against the authority of Christ?
To be converted to faith in Jesus Christ is to return to the worship of the true God, and to dethrone all rivals to his authority.
