Finding Christ in Christmas

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
Luke 2:15-16

The shepherds in the fields, who received news from an angel that a Savior had been born, agreed to leave their flocks to go search for the Child. Following the direction given to them, they went to Bethlehem and looked for the Babe in swaddling cloths, lying in the manger. They hurried, knowing something miraculous had been revealed to them.

Mary, Joseph, and the Babe were found by the seeking shepherds. They beheld the sight––a Savior in a manger. The angel’s revelation and the confirmation of the Savior’s birth became public knowledge, as the shepherds spread the news far and wide. All those who heard the shepherds marveled.

Mary was different; she did not proclaim her Son as Savior. She was like any other mother. She held Him, nursed Him, and cared for His needs. Mary knew how special Jesus was to her and to the world. Yet everything miraculous happening in and surrounding her life was pondered within her heart (Luke 2:19).

When the shepherds returned to their flocks in the fields, they gave glory to God. They knew how privileged they were to be chosen to hear the good tidings of a Savior and to see Him with their very own eyes (Luke 2:17-20).

Christmas time can be an empty season of sadness when the true meaning is not found. The wonder of Christmas is Christ. You only need to discover the reality of the Babe lying in the manger for yourself. Find Christ in Christmas! When you find Christ, your perspective will change.

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; hail th’ incarnate Deity, pleased with us in flesh to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel.
