Nighttime Glory
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
Luke 2:8-9
At night, the shepherds watched over their sheep in the fields, when all of a sudden, an angel of the Lord stood before them. The glory of the Lord illuminated the darkness, and they were filled with fear and awe. The shepherds may have questioned in their hearts, What is happening? Calming their anxieties, the angel spoke to them:
“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger” (Luke 2:10-12).
Interestingly, God chose humble shepherds to hear about the birth of His Son. He wanted them to know the Savior had been born in Bethlehem. They could see Christ the Lord for themselves. All they needed to do was go into the City of David, and they would find the Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.
A heavenly choir of angels filled the night sky. Through a heavenly host, God declared in praise His message of hope to the world: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14).
After hearing the angels declare the birth of Christ, the shepherds went seeking the Savior. This is an important step to follow. After hearing the pastor preach a Christmas message, did you continue onward to seek the Savior? Take the necessary steps to find Him. In doing so, it is a step toward your own salvation.
Christ chargeth me to believe His daylight at midnight.
