Christmas Day

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:6-7

Within the city of Bethlehem, all the inns were filled with people who had traveled there for the worldwide census. Among the throngs of people, Joseph and Mary looked everywhere for a vacant room to find rest, but every place was filled to capacity. The restless couple knew the Baby would be born soon. Exhausted, they took the only place available to them––a humble stable where animals were kept and fed.

At last a safe and warm place to stay. Mary went into labor and gave birth to her Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and gently laid Him in a simple manger used as a trough to feed the animals. Our Savior, the King of kings, was born!

What an amazing miracle! God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world (John 3:16), yet most people in the city of Bethlehem remained oblivious to this wonderful miracle that had just taken place. They continued on––business as usual––but this was no ordinary day.

Our streets and cities have been full of people getting gifts for friends and family, but how many of them have stopped to think about God’s greatest gift––God’s Son––given to us? Sadly, today there are still so many people who remain unaware of the true meaning of Christmas.

On Christmas Day, take time to contemplate the meaning of Jesus’ birth and rejoice in your salvation.

The immense step from the Babe at Bethlehem to the living, reigning triumphant Lord Jesus, returning to earth for His own people––that is the glorious truth proclaimed throughout Scripture. As the bells ring out the joys of Christmas, may we also be alert for the final trumpet that will announce His return, when we shall always be with Him.
