Christmas Eve

…there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:7

2000 years ago today was the Eve of the most incredible event in world history! The place was Bethlehem; the time was the imminent birth of Jesus. Finding no room for them in the inn, Joseph and Mary found comfort and rest in a humble cave where animals were kept.

From this passage of Scripture, preachers often ask this pertinent question, “Do you have room in your heart for Jesus Christ?” People these days have hearts full of worldly cares and worries. Others have hearts full of temporal joys––all the temporal goods this world can offer them.

However, in every heart there is an empty room that can only be filled with Jesus Christ. Nothing else in this life can completely satisfy us. Why? This phrase in Ecclesiastes 3:11, reveals the reason: ...He [God] has put eternity in their hearts....

A Presbyterian minister, Robert B. Munger wrote a small book entitled, My Heart Christ’s Home. It shows the human longing for eternity:

One evening I invited Jesus into my heart. What an entrance He made! It was not a spectacular emotional thing, but very real. Something happened at the very center of my life. He came into the darkness of my heart and turned on the light. He built a fire on the hearth and banished the chill. He started music where there had been silence. He filled the emptiness with His own, loving, wonderful fellowship. I have never regretted opening the door to Christ, and I never will.

What are you keeping in your heart these days? Have you examined every room? Is there a room with hidden sin? Does Christ need to come in and clean house? I pray there would be a room in your heart for Jesus Christ this Christmas Eve. Invite Him in by faith! You will never regret the day you made room in your heart for Jesus.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King! Let every heart prepare Him room....
