Christmas Eve

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered…. [but] there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:6-7

Tired and weary, Mary and Joseph finally arrived in Bethlehem, only to find that all the streets were jam-packed with people who had also traveled there for the census (Luke 2:1-3). They decided to look for a vacant room to find rest, but everything was filled to capacity.

Imagine, the exhausted couple must have knocked on so many doors to inquire if there was any place they could lie down and rest, but the only location left open to them was a humble stable, or cave, where animals were kept. Mary was almost near her time to give birth, but sadly, the Scriptures tell us: …there was no room for them in the inn.

This Christmas, there are still so many people who do not have room for Jesus in their lives. People give so many excuses for not welcoming the Savior of the world into their hearts. Others, like those in Bethlehem, go about their daily business completely unaware of the miracle of Christ’s birth. For them, Christmas has become very commercial––a time of gifts, food and family––but no room for Jesus Christ.

If you fill your life with worldly things, you will remain empty. Do not continue forward with your life without Christ. Why not make room in your heart for Him? He desires to give you salvation. Consider Christ this Christmas Eve and fill your heart with peace and joy.

The very purpose of Christ’s coming into the world was that He might offer up His life as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He came to die. This is the heart of Christmas.
