Christmas Eve
So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered…. [but] there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:6-7
When Mary and Joseph finally arrived in Bethlehem, tired and weary, all the streets were jam-packed with people who had traveled far and wide for the census (Luke 2:1-3). Joseph and Mary looked for a vacant room to find rest, but everything was filled to capacity.
Imagine, the exhausted couple must have knocked on so many doors to inquire if there was any place they could lie down and rest, but the only location left open to them was a humble stable or cave where animals where kept. Mary was almost near her time to give birth, but sadly, the Scriptures record: …there was no room for them in the inn.
There are so many people who do not have room for Jesus in their lives today. Some have nothing but excuses for not welcoming into their lives the Savior of the world! Others, like those in Bethlehem, go about their daily business completely unaware of the miracle of Christ’s birth. Christmas has become a time of gifts, food and family––but no Christ.
Even though a King was born, a great many people are disinterested in Jesus Christ’s birth. They continue on with their lives––business as usual. Are you someone who is rushing, buying last minute gifts and presents for your family and friends without knowing that God has given you the greatest gift––His Son?
I pray for those who do not know Christ. It is only through the work of the Holy Spirit that they can be brought to a place of true conversion. The Spirit of God convicts them to bring about a lasting change. Sinners need to find room in their empty hearts for Jesus. May you find hope, peace and salvation that can only be found in Christ this Christmas.
The very purpose of Christ’s coming into the world was that he might offer up his life as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He came to die. This is the heart of Christmas.
