The Miracle of Emmanuel
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14
The Bible is no ordinary book, and Christ is no ordinary man. This becomes a reality to those who know the Scriptures and believe Jesus is the Christ. Isaiah the prophet spoke about Jesus’ birth before it even happened: “...Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14), which means “God with us.”
The virgin birth is relevant to the deity and humanity of Christ. It was to be a miraculous conception and Mary herself did not know how it would actually happen (Luke 1:34). She believed the angel, but was curious, as she was had not been with a man. The angel Gabriel said: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35). The birth of the Son of God was miraculous.
Although a Man, Christ is sinless. Only a sinless sacrifice could die for the sins of the world: For He [God the Father] made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). No ordinary man could accomplish the redemption of mankind. Only Christ, our sinless Savior, could accomplish the work of our redemption.
If you choose to give your life to Jesus, you will no longer live an ordinary life, but an extraordinary one. Although you and I are guaranteed tribulation in this life (John 16:33), always remember that Jesus’ name, Emmanuel, means “God with us.” Jesus Christ will never forsake you; He is always with you––you have His peace.
My prayer is that God would make me an extraordinary Christian.
