Christ’s Government of Peace
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:7
Governments have failed to maintain world peace; wars continue to rage. Israel is fighting wars against her enemies on multiple fronts. Iran funds wars against Israel. There still exists a real threat from China to invade Taiwan. Russia has an ongoing war with Ukraine. Since the invasion, it has lasted almost three years. Godless, power-hungry leaders rule their lands and people with utter tyranny. North Korea and Afghanistan are on the top of the list for crimes against humanity, along with China.
Since we will have a transition of government, these rogue leaders have already been placed on blast. Our new President-elect has promised “Peace through Strength.” There is a renewed hope that President Trump will end all the wars raging around the world and bring in an era of peace––a golden age for America.
For a time, perhaps, things will get better, but peace on earth is not something that is promised to last. Wars and rumors of wars are all part of the signs of the Last Days. Listen to what Jesus said to His disciples. Before He returns to set up His Kingdom: “...you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom...” (Matthew 24:6-7).
For the Christian, we know there will only be a lasting and unending peace when Christ returns and sets up His government on earth. You see, Christmas celebrates, not only the promise of His birth, but also the promise of His Second Coming, as both are entwined together in Isaiah’s amazing prophecy: ...upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Let us be alert to the season in which we are living. It is the season of the Blessed Hope, calling for us to cut our ties with the world and build ourselves on this One who will soon appear.
