God My Savior
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.”
Luke 1:46-49
Elizabeth’s words of encouragement caused Mary to respond to God with praise. Mary spontaneously magnified the Lord for the miraculous things He was doing in her life. As the mother of Jesus, she would be remembered for all generations. Mary rejoiced in her mighty God; He had done great things for her. She was blessed beyond measure and enthusiastically praised His magnificent, holy name.
Mary, in sincere humility, recognized her poor estate. She was a lowly maidservant to be used in God’s plan of redemption. It is important to understand, this holy Child she carried in her womb would not only be the Savior of the world, He would be Mary’s very own Savior. Mary, although pure, was not sinless like her Savior. Even though blessed among women, she needed salvation.
Mary saw herself in the correct light; she understood the profound truth of her insignificance compared to the greatness of God. But do we? Although we are but a speck of dust in this vast universe, God, in His affection for us, is mindful of us and loves us. He has done great things for us by sending His Son to die for the sins of the world: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
As a sinner, you can rejoice in God your Savior! What great things has God done in your life that have caused you to magnify Him?
The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad.
~Psalm 126:3~
