The Holy Trinity

Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
Luke 1:34-35

In awe and wonder, Mary inquired of the angel how this miracle of Christ’s conception would happen. She questioned, but never doubted God’s Word in unbelief. The angel answered her finite mind’s curiosity. The Holy Spirit, who is the third person of the Trinity, would come upon Mary, and the power of God would overshadow her. She would carry the precious Seed within her womb (Genesis 3:15). Jesus, the Son of God, would be born of Mary.

Throughout the Bible, the Trinity is seen––one God in three persons, all having the same divine attributes. God the Father is holy: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” (Isaiah 6:3); Jesus, God’s Son, is holy: ...that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God (Luke 1: 35); and the Spirit given to believers is known as the Holy Spirit: Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

Understand, only a holy sacrifice could be a sufficient sacrifice for sin. Jesus had no sin: And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin (1 John 3:5). Jesus met the needed requirements:

…knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot (1 Peter 1:18-19).

It was the whole Trinity, which at the beginning of creation said, "Let us make man". It was the whole Trinity again, which at the beginning of the Gospel seemed to say, "Let us save man."
