Jesus Shall Reign Forever

“He [Jesus] will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Luke 1:32-33

The angel Gabriel continued to unfold God’s eternal plan for His Son. He would one day rule and reign. From which earthly royal throne would Christ be connected to? He was connect to none other than King David! However, there would be a great difference. Jesus’ reign will have no end. His Kingdom is everlasting. This is because Jesus Christ has a dual nature––deity and humanity.

Mary was made aware of the royalty and majesty belonging to the Child she would cradle within her womb. Jesus is the Son of the Highest! Charles Spurgeon shared his insights about His reign:

By God’s decree the ever blessed Son of the Highest is placed in power, and exalted to his throne. The rulers cannot snatch from his hand the scepter, nor dash from his head the crown: Jesus reigns and must reign till all enemies are put under his feet.

God sent His Son to earth for our sake. Our royal King came to die on the Cross and, at that time, in His humanity, He wore a painful crown of thorns. There on the cross, He felt such agonizing pain. Slowly He died, and, with His last breath, finished the work He came to do. He fought the torturous battle for our redemption. Sinners can be forgiven. Then after three days, Jesus rose from the dead, victorious. We have the blessed hope of eternal life (John 3:16).

Grasp the incredible message of hope that the Gospel brings to us! Our King reigns, victorious! Death has been overcome! If you are a lost sinner, come to the Cross this Christmas. Accept the Son of the Highest, King forever.

Thrones may fall and crumble, Kingdoms may rise and fall, but the throne of Immanuel shall flourish above them all. He is King forever O’er His vast domain, tho’ the stars may fall, far above them all King Immanuel shall reign.
