Another Miraculous Message
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
Luke 1:26-28
During the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to give a miraculous message to another woman. This time, the angel went into a city in Galilee, to Nazareth. There Mary, a young virgin, was to be betrothed––pledged in marriage––to a godly, young man, Joseph. She did not expect that her life would change direction.
The Lord had an incredible plan for Mary’s life––more than she could have ever imagined. The Lord had chosen her from among all of the women on earth for one specific purpose. She was highly favored and blessed among women. Although Mary did not yet fully understand what was about to happen, she knew the Lord and trusted Him.
How comforting it was for Mary to receive the assurance that the Lord Himself was with her because her life was about to change. Everything was beginning to unfold and fall into place according to what was prophesied in the Old Testament Scriptures. Soon she would understand how she would fit into God’s plans for her life. Even though His plan would cause her to face many difficulties, it would cause her to rejoice!
Think about it. The Gospel message, when received, changes a person’s life and direction. God will begin to reveal to them the purpose and plans He has for them. Have you faced great difficulties as you willingly surrender your life to God’s plan for your life? Be encouraged. God is with you, and He will give you reason to rejoice!
The gospel is not only the most important message in all of history; it is the only essential message in all of history.
