Christ’s Government of Peace
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:7
Are you tired of endless wars? There are wars between Russia and Ukraine, Israel and Hamas––supported by Arab nations such as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. Governments have tried, but failed, to maintain world peace; wars continue to rage. There still exists an uneasiness about China’s threat to invade Taiwan. North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, has made an unholy alliance with Russia and China. He views South Korea as a “hostile country” and does not look favorably on the U.S.
In Nigeria, the government seems to have denied and turned a blind eye to the genocide of Christians at the hands of Isis terrorists in their land. President Trump has promised “peace through strength.” There is still a renewed hope that President Trump will end many wars raging around the world and bring in an era of peace––a golden age for America.
However, wars and rumors of wars are all part of the signs of the Last Days. Listen to what Jesus said would happen to His Disciples before He returned to set up His Kingdom: “...you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom...” (Matthew 24:6-7).
Peace on earth is not something we will enjoy until Jesus Christ returns to set up His Kingdom on earth. You see, Christmas celebrates, not only the promise of His birth, but also the promise of His Second Coming, as both are entwined in Isaiah’s amazing prophecy: ...upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever.... There is hope for a better future––peace without end.
Let us be alert to the season in which we are living. It is the season of the Blessed Hope, calling for us to cut our ties with the world and build ourselves on this One who will soon appear.
