The Wonderful Names of Christ

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

Jesus is the name which is above every name; and at His name every knee shall bow (Philippians 2:9-10). About 700 years before Christ was born, Isaiah the prophet gave a prophecy about Him. Consider the depth of meaning in each of the names He was given: Child, Son, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

A Child is born speaks to us of the wonder of Jesus’ incarnation. He was born of a virgin––Mary. He was clothed in human flesh: So the Word became human and made his home among us ... And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son (John 1:14 NLT). A Son is given reveals to us His deity––the Son of God. The verse continues––the government will be upon His shoulder. What will that be like? Psalm 96:10 tells us: Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns; the world also is firmly established ... He shall judge the peoples righteously.”

On January 20, 2025, our President-elect will be sworn in at his inauguration. Some people nervously question, “Will he govern fairly? Will our lives change for the better?” Proverbs 29:2 tells us: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Many people are rejoicing because we will have an administration that is favorable to Israel and our Christian values, but what a wonderful day it will be when Jesus rules and reigns!

Christ is our Wonderful Counselor. We can take all our problems or situations to Him. Mighty God is a statement of His power. Everlasting Father reveals to us His eternal existence, and, in relation to us, He is the originator of time and eternity. As our Prince of Peace, this exalted name brings with His rulership a renewed relationship with God and His peace.

There will be no universal peace until the Prince of Peace appears.
