The Dual Nature of Jesus Christ

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:5-7

Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of selflessness and humility. Christians should emulate the mental attitude and pattern of His life––be Christ-like.

In eternity, salvation was planned before the foundations of the earth (Ephesians 1:4-6). Jesus willingly took the form of a man; He came in the flesh––as God incarnate. The word being means “an unchanging position.” Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. Jesus never lost His deity. The phrase in the likeness of men, speaks of the fact that Jesus never sinned; He remained sinless.

Jesus submitted Himself to the Father’s will. The words made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant show how Jesus emptied Himself and became a Servant to mankind. Jesus gave His life for sinners, you and me, all because He loved us. He humbled Himself and died on the Cross for our sins (John 3:16). I have never known of any other god who has the power to do that for you and me.

Imagine, Jesus, as God, knew that He would be betrayed and handed over to sinners. He was aware that they would spit on Him, whip Him, crucify Him, and kill Him. The Son of God would feel agonizing pain. Yet He willingly humbled Himself and died on the Cross for you and me. No king, queen or prince has ever done what Jesus has done. Royalty has an exalted position. Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords (1Timothy 6:15), humbled Himself before He was exalted.

As we celebrate Christmas, contemplate the humility in what Jesus Christ has done. Ask the Lord to help you to be an example of His humility in your servanthood to your families and friends this Christmas season.

True humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.
