Wives Respect Your Husband
Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Ephesians 5:33
Have you seen bizarre talk shows that showcase marriage situations that are completely ridiculous? Seriously, it is like watching a comedy show! The scenarios they come up with seem fabricated, as if just set up to shock audiences. Yet I have counseled with many couples and have learned that in reality, terrible situations really do happen in marriages.
When there are disagreements in a marriage, it is best for couples to try and communicate and resolve issues peacefully. The couple should pray together. It is important for a wife to not correct, rebuke or argue with her husband in front of their children. Speak to him privately. Neither should she poison her children against their father, no matter the situation. A wife is to respect her husband. If children see their father being disrespected, when they reach their teenage years, they will lose respect for both their mother and father.
A wife is not to be a thorn in her husband’s side by constantly nagging him. She is to submit to him and respect him. A good marriage can be enjoyed when a couple chooses to obey God’s commands. What is God’s command? Submitting to one another in the fear of God (Ephesians 5:21). I am glad this Scripture is in the Bible, because God speaks to both parties––the husband and the wife. If a husband and wife desire to enrich their marriage, then they both need to learn to submit to Jesus Christ––bottom line.
Understand, there are no perfect marriages. A husband and wife will make mistakes, but as they seek the Lord for wisdom He will help them.
How soon marriage counselling sessions would end if husbands and wives were competing in thoughtful self-denial!
