The Watchman

Now it came to pass at the end of seven days that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:”
Ezekiel 3:16-17

In the Old Testament, in Ezekiel 3:16-21 and Ezekiel 33:1-11, the prophet Ezekiel was called by God to become a watchman. In these two chapters, the prophet preached sermons that gave accountability to those called to be watchmen.

As Christians, we are called to be watchmen; we have a message to give people. We are to tell them about God’s love so they do not perish: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). We are not to stay silent. While we are still alive, tell them the message.

For instance, if there is a person who does not know Jesus, then as a watchman, you have the responsibility to share Christ with them. If they reject the Gospel and die in their sin, you are free from their blood. However, if you know a person who is spiritually lost, and you do not warn them about their condition, and they die in their sin, then God will hold you accountable (Ezekiel 3:18-19; Ezekiel 33:7:9).

You see, God has not called us to just sit idle in church, read our Bibles, and pray. After being born-again and having gone forward to become rooted and grounded in God’s Word, we are to become active, doing something for Christ. Whatever that may be in the body of Christ, we all still have the responsibility to share our faith with someone.

There are so many opportunities to share the Gospel today. People are very distressed; they have a lot of problems. Even though they may be smiling, deep down inside they are hurting. When you begin a conversation with them, they will respond by opening up their hearts and sharing their life story with you. Then you can share Jesus with them.

God has given believers the responsibility of spreading the Gospel to all the world, and we need to use all at our disposal to accomplish this task.
