The Preciousness of Christ’s Blood
...knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
1 Peter 1:18-19
In the Old Testament, the Jewish priests either killed a lamb, a turtle dove, or a pigeon for sin. They shed the animal’s blood, but this only served as a covering for sin; it never took it away. These sacrifices were only a shadow of what was to come. In the New Testament, we have the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who took upon Himself the sin of the world (John 1:29).
Peter spoke of past traditions kept by the Jewish fathers. The silver and gold he spoke of is when the money changers at the Temple were overcharging people for a spotless lamb or dove. Jesus overturned the tables and used a whip to chase these robbers away (Matthew 21:12-13).
Listen, there is not enough gold or silver in this entire world to pay for our eternal salvation––no possible way. Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is freely given to us, but never forget the price He paid for it. The blood of Christ was costly––our salvation was not cheap. Redemption was not cheap! Jesus paid for it with His own precious blood in the most horrendous way––His death on the Cross. Jesus died for you, and He died for me. He paid the ultimate price. We have been bought by the wondrous blood of Jesus. So, believer, never take Jesus’ blood in vain.
Can a person be saved by keeping their religious traditions? No! I ask you, “Whose blood do you need?” It is Jesus’ blood––the blood of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!
The individual who desires to have his sins forgiven must seek for it through the blood of Jesus. The individual who desires to get power over sin must likewise seek it through the blood of Jesus.
