Creator of the Universe

...through whom also He [Jesus] made the worlds....
Hebrews 1:2

I am amazed at how God created space––the stars, moon, sun, and the many different galaxies with all their planets. Astronomers are always finding new planets and galaxies. God created the universe in such order. Nothing in space is out of order; not a single star is out of place. In fact, the Bible tells us that God knows each star by name: He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite (Psalm 147:4-5). Many of these things are far beyond our understanding.

Colossians 1:15 is so profound. Read with me what is stated: He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. This means Jesus is “first in rank” over all creation. In Colossians 1:16-18, we gain an even greater understanding of the deity and supremacy of Jesus:

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

The Greek translation for the word consist in Colossians 1:17 means “to put together,” “unite parts into a whole,” or “stand together,” or “to be compact.” In other words, Jesus is holding every atom together. Jesus upholds all created things by the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus is so powerful that He is not only in control of the entire universe, but also He is literally holding everything together. Without Jesus holding everything together; everything would fall apart.

Think about your life for a moment. You may feel like your life is falling apart, but, in reality, Jesus is upholding you by His power.

It is God’s Word that made us; is it any wonder that His Word should sustain us?
