The Son of God

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16

God sent His Son into this sinful world, to die for you and for me. Jesus came at the right time in history. Do you know why this is very exciting? As we study the book of Hebrews, we read: God ... has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.... We are given a clear indication of the age that we are now living in.

Paul wrote the book of Hebrews 2000 years ago as the Holy Spirit spoke to him. We are living in the Last Days! The evidence is seen as we watch the lawless behavior happening on our streets. There are increasing wars and rumors of wars, and there is instability of our planet––volcanic eruptions and earthquakes in various places. We are living in a time period where Jesus could come at any moment. Seriously, the next prophetical event is the Rapture of the Church!

Who is Jesus? He is not an angel; He is God. He is no less than God. He is equal with God. Jesus has many different titles that speak of His deity. We see His deity proclaimed in the book of Luke. He is also called the “Son of God” in Luke 1.35: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, [Mary] and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” He is called the “Son of the Highest” in Luke 1.32: He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

In 2 John 3, Jesus is called the “Son of the Father:” Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. He is called by the Father “My Beloved Son,” an endearing name: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).

The book of Hebrews is all about Jesus Christ––who He is, and what He came to do. Jesus came to save us.

Christ came down to save us from a terrible hell, and any man who is cast down to hell from here must go in the full blaze of the gospel, and over the mangled body of the Son of God.
