Searching Carefully

Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
1 Peter 1:10-11

Can you fathom the depth of what was written in these verses? When the Old Testament prophets searched as to when Christ was coming, they were inspired by the Holy Spirit, who dwelt in them, to write down what was revealed to them. They knew that one day, their Messiah was going to come, suffer, and bring His salvation. Although the prophets did not fully understand the magnitude of His salvation––including the Gentiles and the birth of the Church––what they prophesied came to pass.

They accurately wrote down the time of Christ’s birth, His future sufferings, and the glories that were to come. They testified about these things before they even happened. This was all attributed to the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit, who inspired their writings.

Think about what was revealed in Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53. With pinpoint accuracy, a detailed account was written of Jesus’ life––the suffering Servant’s tortuous death on the Cross, His Resurrection, and glorification. Search carefully for yourself and cross-reference what was prophetically written in the Old Testament with what happened in the New Testament. It all fits together like an intricate puzzle.

The Holy Spirit revealed to the prophets that Jesus would rise again from the dead and save His people from their sins. King David prophesied of Jesus’ Resurrection: My flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption (Psalm 16:9-10; Acts 2:29-31). You see, the Holy Spirit testified beforehand of the sufferings of Christ and His following glories––His Resurrection, Ascension, and Enthronement at the right hand of the Father. Have you searched the Scriptures to see if these things are true?

To some the Bible is uninteresting and unprofitable, because they read too fast. Do you search the Scriptures or do you only skim them?
