A Bondservant

Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God.
Romans 1:1-7

Paul was not a slave of Rome, but he considered himself to be a slave––a bondservant of Jesus Christ. He willingly submitted himself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. What about us? God desires that we not only submit to Christ, but as believers, we should submit in love to our employers. In the workplace, a servant must learn to be submissive and their obedience must come from a yielded heart. The employer has to be fair in the way he treats his employees. The Bible teaches, the laborer is worthy of his hire (Luke 10:7). That is the only way a good relationship between an employer and an employee can be kept, otherwise there will be friction and major problems.

A long time ago, I used to work for Lucky’s as a cashier and was moving up within management in the company. Unfortunately, when you work and train among other co-workers, you hear them grumbling and complaining. You hear things that you probably should not have heard. Some employees always find something to be displeased with, either the lack of their days off or the amount of their pay.

When working closely with other people, I have found, some of them habitually tried to cut corners. They took longer lunches, extra breaks, or they constantly came in late. When the telephone rang, usually it was the same person calling in with a lame excuse. It seemed as if they had no desire to work hard. Perhaps when they were young they were not taught at home to work hard.

An employee should give their best work to their employers. Christians have to be honest in their labor. Are you a good example to your employer? Do you take initiative and stay a little longer to finish the job? This is not so others can see. Your motive is not to work for people; you work for the Lord––that is the key. He sees everything you do.

You build trust with others each time you choose integrity over image, truth over convenience, or honor over personal gain.
