Joy in Jerusalem
“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.
Luke 24:49-53
When the disciples saw the Lord leave from the Mount of Olives, they waited for the next 10 days in Jerusalem with great joy. They worshiped Him. In the Temple, the disciples could be found praising and blessing God. They were so thankful.
Imagine, the disciples knew that death and the grave had been conquered. Later, the Apostle Paul penned:
“O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).
Listen to the thankfulness of this well-known disciple for God’s mercy and having an eternal inheritance:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5).
I believe Peter and all the other disciples were so thankful for their redemption and the certainty that their King would one day return. What about you? Think about the many promises and blessings that God has given freely to you. Join other believers in church and continually worship, praise, and bless God for His goodness.
The servants of the Lord are to sing his praises in this life to the world's end; and in the next life world without end.
