A Heavenly Reservation

...to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:4-5

Peter established that we have an incorruptible inheritance that is undefiled––it does not fade away. This inheritance is reserved in heaven for you! That is amazing! Have you ever booked and paid for a reservation at a hotel a whole year in advance? Once you arrive at the hotel and give the receptionist your name, they will look up to confirm your reservation. If it is there, you are given the keys to your room.

Now consider the impact of what this Scripture is saying. Your eternal inheritance is reserved in heaven with absolutely no expiration date. The moment you accepted Jesus by faith as your Lord and Savior, your inheritance became protected––kept by God’s power. Your eternal salvation was prepaid––a down-payment was given––the precious blood of Jesus Christ was the purchase price for your redemption: In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace... (Ephesians 1:7).

Our salvation is eternal, not temporal. It is incorruptible, meaning “non-destructive.” It is undefiled, which means “free from stains, clean and pure.” Believers, through the blood Christ, are cleansed from sin (1 John 1:7), and they receive an inheritance that does not fade away. Literally, it is “guarded” or “secured.” Our salvation in Jesus Christ is eternally secure, as long as we abide in Jesus Christ, every day (John 15). The Bible tells us so––it is reserved in heaven for you.
