A Child’s Training and Admonition

...bring them [children] up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4

Godly fathers are of great value to our societies. This is an important Scripture for fathers. They are to diligently teach their children about the Lord and warn them about the evils of this life. Fathers are to help their children make good decisions. The Word of God will help guide them. Children need to learn to please the Lord, and to obey their mothers and fathers.

Basic Scriptures found in the Word of God will help parents in teaching their children. Fathers are to instruct and encourage their children. The words to bring them up means “to nourish, to promote health, to strengthen and to educate children through the word of God. The word training, means to teach through discipline and correction. The word admonition means to warn children by the Word of God.

Restrain your children when they do something wrong. As a father, if you love your children, then out of love chasten. Never allow children to bring drugs and alcohol into your home. Do not allow any worldliness in your house. Children need to be taught to respect your home.

Educate your children constantly in the Word of God. It will help guide them and give them wisdom. God’s Word will warn them about the things that can destroy their lives. Again, a parent’s responsibility is given in Deuteronomy 6:6-7:

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

Father’s must also protect and stand up for their children. Guard them from the evils of this world. Protect their eyes and their young hearts. Place Scriptures on the wall for them to read. Love and care for them.
